The Ig Nobel Prize is awarded to research that makes people laugh and think. This year marks the 18th consecutive year that a Japanese person has won the award, which has become a hot topic. At first glance, many of the research projects seem “strange,” but the researchers are actually very serious. Research that makes you wonder what the purpose is, such as comparing the taste of tadpoles or conducting experiments to see if banana peels are really slippery, can actually lead to unexpected discoveries that lead to scientific advances.
