The Science History Institute, one of the American Chemical Society’s designated National Historic Chemical Landmarks and home to some significant ACS artifacts, recently unveiled a permanent exhibition, Fire and Gold: The Art of Alchemy.
This new exhibit was curated by Elisabeth Berry Drago, who has written extensively about alchemy and art and is the institute’s former director of museum education. It features paintings from both the Fisher Collection, which was gifted to the institute by the estate of Fisher Scientific founder Chester G. Fisher, and the Eddleman Collection, given by Spectrum Laboratories founder Roy Eddleman.
“They’re dirty, they’re cluttered, they’re cramped. They’re process-oriented pictures. They’re about visualizing how stuff gets made.”
