These sugars target enhanced stabilization, reduced viscosity, and improved drug delivery performance of proteins and other biopharmaceuticals. ExtremoChem, also based in Lisbon, has developed a library of synthetic analogs of natural molecules found in extremophiles, which are organisms capable of withstanding hostile environments.
