Lyten is planning a $1 billion plant near Reno, Nevada, to manufacture lithium- sulfur batteries. Set to open in 2027, the facility will produce cathode materials and lithium-metal anodes. It will also assemble the final batteries. The start-up says its battery cells will be 60% lighter than lithium iron phosphate cells. Lyten, which started pilot production in California in 2023, says it expects customers to start using its lightweight batteries in drones and space and defense applications by year-end.
