Microbes and bearded men [tribute drawing about a past Ig Nobel Prize winner]

[ad_1]

This is another drawing by artist Becky Moon, about her favorite Ig Nobel Prize winners. Moon has been a scholar of the Ig Nobel Prizes since she was a young teenager.

This one celebrates Ig Nobel Public Health Prize that was awarded in the year 2010 to

Manuel Barbeito, Charles Mathews, and Larry Taylor of the Industrial Health and Safety Office, Fort Detrick, Maryland, USA, for determining by experiment that microbes cling to bearded scientists. That research is documented in the study “Microbiological Laboratory Hazard of Bearded Men,” Manuel S. Barbeito, Charles T. Mathews, and Larry A. Taylor, Applied Microbiology, vol. 15, no. 4, July 1967, pp. 899–906.

Coming: the 2024 Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony

Ten new Ig Nobel Prize winners will be introduced at the 24th First Annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony, on September 12, 2024. The ceremony will happen at MIT, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It will be webcast live, in English and also (in a separate stream) with Japanese captioning.
