Invista won’t close nylon intermediate plant

Invista has decided to keep running its hexamethylene diamine (HMD) plant in Orange, Texas. HMD is reacted with adipic acid to make nylon 6,6. In 2023, the company announced its intention to close the plant and a unit that makes its raw material, adiponitrile. But the company says that the site has demonstrated its ability to make only HMD, without adiponitrile on the same site. This isn’t the only recent reversal for Invista. In July, the company said its intends to reopen a long-shuttered HMD plant in Maitland, Ontario.
