The Division of Publications of the American Chemical Society is launching a new journal, ACS Applied Catalysis, that is aimed at publishing research that will advance catalysis applications in the fields of chemistry, engineering, and technology and related fields. This includes studies of the fundamental understanding of the science, as well as its scalable impact. The journal will publish peer-reviewed research, letters, reviews, perspectives, viewpoints, and tutorials.
“Introducing ACS Applied Catalysis is an exciting opportunity for ACS Publications to support a field that is central to progress across energy, sustainability, materials, chemical manufacturing, and emerging technologies,” ACS Publications senior vice president and chief publishing officer Sarah Tegen says in a press release.
Eranda Nikolla, a professor of chemical engineering at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, will serve as the journal’s editor in chief. Nikolla is recognized internationally for her research on catalytic structures, in which she works to improve their performance.
“My vision is for the journal to reside at the nexus of foundational catalytic science and important technological transformation,” Nikolla says in the press release. “The application scope spans catalysis for energy conversion, chemical process intensification, environmental remediation, sustainable chemistry, polymer science, materials science, and AI [artificial intelligence]–driven advances in the field of catalysis.”
The journal will begin accepting submissions in June, with the first issue expected in early 2027.
