On April 8, American Chemical Society Publications announced the launch of a new open-access journal, Digital Medical Engineering, in partnership with Southeast University in China.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Southeast University to introduce Digital Medical Engineering, a journal that convenes the community of researchers working at the intersection of digital technologies, engineering, and medicine,” ACS Publications senior vice president and chief publishing officer Sarah Tegen says in a press release.
The journal will be led by Gaolin Liang, chair professor in the School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering at Southeast University. Liang, whose academic career is in the field of bioimaging and biomedicine, has published more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
“My vision for Digital Medical Engineering is to establish it as a premier, must-read journal that will be the home of transformative research that pushes the boundaries of how digital tools and engineering principles are applied to healthcare,” Liang says in the press release. “We will strive for rapid publication of high-impact studies, from novel biosensors and medical imaging analyses to AI-driven [artificial intelligence–driven] diagnostics and personalized medicine platforms. Ultimately, we want the journal to reflect the most dynamic and promising advancements that will shape the future of medicine.”
Submissions for the journal will open in mid-2026 with the aim to publish the first issue later in the same year.
