The New Jersey Section of the American Chemical Society has named Gregory C. Fu the winner of the 2026 Award for Creativity in Molecular Design and Synthesis. Fu, Chandler Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology, is being recognized for his many contributions in both mechanistic and synthetic chemistry. The award “is given in recognition of accomplishment in pure or applied chemistry, as characterized by the initiative, creativeness, leadership, and perseverance of the individual and indicated by published or unpublished evidence.”
In a career spanning more than 3 decades, Fu is among the pioneers of asymmetric Lewis base catalysis; he developed the first methods for aryl chloride cross-coupling and Heck reactions. His more recent work includes publishing extensively on stereoselective/stereoconvergent nickel-catalyzed coupling reactions.
