The Memphis Local Section of the American Chemical Society is seeking nominations for the 2026 Southern Chemist Award. The award has a history spanning over 50 years and recognizes outstanding researchers in the region.
Nominees should be US citizens and permanent residents who have worked in the US South for at least 10 years, with a 10-year or more record of accomplishment. Nominees must have actively participated in ACS events and brought recognition to the region through their work. For the purposes of this award, the South consists of the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
The deadline to submit materials is Aug. 28. Nomination submissions should consist of a letter containing biographical details and a brief account of the nominee’s technical accomplishments, a curriculum vitae, publication and patent lists, a list of the nominee’s ACS activities, and two seconding letters from persons not at the nominee’s place of employment. The preferred submission format is a PDF via email addressed to 2026 Southern Chemist Award committee chair Michael Brown at [email protected].
