The Success Memo validates the performance of 374Water’s AirSCWO destruction technology for use across all Federal agencies.
The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) Success Memo follows the completion of a demonstration and evaluation program under the DoD’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP).
374Water’s AirSCWO destruction technology offers supercritical water oxidation for the permanent destruction of PFAS and hazardous organic waste streams. The Success Memo formally validates the economic and technical viability of a regional AirSCWO hub, as well as designating successful completion of the Prototype Project (HQ0034-20-9-DIU) under 10 U.S.C. §4022.

A Success Memo permits federal procurement
Under the federal Other Transaction Authority (OTA) framework, a DIU Success Memo formally closes the prototype phase and allows production awards with federal agencies.

AirSCWO can now be deployed across at least 574 military sites
The DoD has identified 574 military installations requiring remediation action for PFAS contamination. This is anticipated to be an expensive endeavour, with remediation at the New Hampshire Pease Air National Guard base costing over $400m.
Over one billion dollars has already been spent on the destruction of AFFF, with large stockpiles and residual contaminents requiring destruction and replacement. The Departments of Energy and Transportation are also directly involved in PFAS remediation efforts across the US.

The Regional Hub Model will support commercial scaling
The DIU/ESTCP prototype project evaluated the strategy of having centralised PFAS destruction facilities receiving concentrated waste streams from customers across an entire region, which 374Water is already seeing with the Orlando site.
Operating on a license agreement with the City of Orlando, the expanded facility has added 88,000 gallons of onsite tank storage, upgraded AirSCWO capacity for significantly higher throughput, and targets between $3 million and $5 million in annual recurring revenue at initial scale. Negotiations are also underway to further expand installed capacity.
